Volunteers Needed – Point in Time Count of Homeless January 6, 2015 FrontPage, News Comments Off on Volunteers Needed – Point in Time Count of Homeless

The Point-in-Time (PIT) count is a count of sheltered and unsheltered homeless persons on a single night in January. HUD requires that Continuums of Care conduct an annual count of homeless persons who are sheltered in emergency shelter, transitional housing, and Safe Havens on a single night. Continuums of Care also must conduct a count of unsheltered homeless persons every other year (odd numbered years). Each count is planned, coordinated, and carried out locally.

The Humboldt Housing and Homeless Coalition (HHHC) is looking for volunteers to help out with this year’s Point-in-Time count on the 28th of January.  The count provides valuable information on the location and needs of those individuals in our community who are experiencing  homelessness.  Without significant community participation, the count will not accurately reflect the need for services here in Humboldt County.

The HHHC is holding training sessions for volunteers at the Professional Building in Eureka. Below is a list of upcoming training dates and times. It is my understanding that not all volunteers need complete this training, that untrained volunteers will be paired with other volunteers that did receive training.  So if you cannot make a training but would still like to volunteers, please reach out to the HHHC via the contact information below.
